Charlie’s Reading Club Update

Last week we had our first visit with Charlie for the reading club.  Charlie will visit our school most Tuesdays and everyone will get a chance to read to him.  We have a schedule posted in the classroom and the students were very excited to see when they will read with him.

Seeking Parents!

Do you know how to play cribbage? We are looking at having a math enrichment program for our classroom.  We are hoping to have volunteers visit our classroom for 45 minutes one afternoon a week for a couple weeks. Cribbage is a fun way for students to practice their counting skills.  If you or maybe a grandparent knows how to play cribbage and is able to volunteer your time we would love to hear from you!

A Video for Parents – Double Digit Addition and Front End Addition

You will have noticed that we are focusing more and more on double digit addition now.  We have worked hard to develop lots of personal strategies for adding numbers so far this year, and double digit addition is the next step.  In grade 2, we focus on ‘front end’ addition.  This may be a ‘new way’ of adding for you.  Please have a look at this video for a pretty clear explanation of what we are doing in class, and how you can help at home.
