Studying Life Cycles – A look at Frog’s in NB

Today we welcomed some new friends into our classroom.  We are observing the life cycle of a frog with two different species.  Follow the link below for a look at New Brunswick frog species….

Plasticine Painting and Butterfly Life Cycles

We have been watching our butterflies for a couple of weeks now and what we are learning gets incorporated into everything!  Today the students watched how Barabara Reid creates her plasticine illustrations and then they began their own!

   
                 

The Great Subitizing Challenge!

Today we talked about the word ‘subitizing’.

“The term is derived from the Latin adjective subitus (meaning “sudden”) and captures a feeling of immediately knowing how many items lie within the visual scene, when the number of items present falls within the subitizing range.[1]

We will be practicing our subitizing skills for the remainder of the week and having a subitizing speed challenge on Friday!
